H.R. No. 1144


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of C Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, bravely served this nation during World War II and are meeting in North Texas in September 2005 for their 30th reunion; and WHEREAS, Devoted to liberty and to their country, these remarkable individuals put their lives on hold during the war to answer this nation's call to arms; placing themselves directly in harm's way, time and again they endured great, often unimaginable burdens and rendered service and sacrifice that is truly beyond measure; and WHEREAS, While fulfilling their duty overseas, this valorous group of paratroopers jumped into Normandy on D-Day and fought for 32 days before being relieved; as part of Operation Market Garden, they then parachuted into Holland, where they fought for nearly two months before their commanders realized they had gone "a bridge too far"; and WHEREAS, Indispensable contributors to the Battle of the Bulge, they helped to stop the Germans from taking the important crossroads city of Bastogne, and went on to fight across Germany until the end of the war; and WHEREAS, The men of C Company played a vital role in securing final victory for our nation during World War II, and as they join together to celebrate their 30th reunion, it is indeed fitting that these members of America's Greatest Generation be given the legislative recognition that they so richly deserve; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the men of C Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, for their courageous service during World War II and commend them for their valiant efforts in behalf of this nation; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for these distinguished veterans as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
