R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving family and good friends celebrate the life of Guy C. "Woody" Woodruff of Alpine, who passed away on June 29, 2001, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, Born in Waco, Mr. Woodruff attended Forrest Avenue High School and graduated from Terrell Prep in Dallas; he went to school at Austin College in Sherman on a football scholarship for a year; during World War II, he served with distinction for three years in the U.S. Army stationed in the South Pacific, specifically in Guadalcanal, Tiawa, and the Philippines; and WHEREAS, Upon returning from the war, Mr. Woodruff married the love of his life, Anna Gene Yungfleisch, and they moved to Alpine; he resumed his college education and earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Sul Ross State College; and WHEREAS, Mr. Woodruff had a long and distinguished career in teaching, coaching, and administration, and his impact was felt in the Alpine, Van Horn, Ft. Hancock, El Paso, and Fabens school systems before he retired as the junior high school principal in Fabens in 1983; in addition to his professional duties, he enjoyed refereeing school sports; and WHEREAS, An avid sportsman who liked golfing and fishing as well as going out for coffee, Mr. Woodruff was a devoted husband and caring family man, and he is profoundly missed by his family members and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Guy C. "Woody" Woodruff and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Guy C. "Woody" Woodruff.
