R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Waymaker Life Strategies, an organization that provides educational enrichment opportunities for children and families, has empowered many individuals in the Sunnyside community through its outstanding programs and initiatives; and WHEREAS, This notable organization is currently sponsoring the Houston's Youth Program for Enrichment (H.Y.P.E.) Freedom School program, a six-week literacy initiative that employs the Children's Defense Fund's National Integrated Reading Curriculum; and WHEREAS, Freedom School students meet each weekday at Pisidia Baptist Church; in addition to immersing themselves in the program's curriculum, the students participate in weekly field trips relevant to the themes found in that week's lessons; and WHEREAS, This growing endeavor relies on the hard work and contributions of college students who are charged with nurturing Freedom School youths; these dedicated individuals serve as facilitators in the classroom and lead parent workshops as well as community outreach activities as part of the program; and WHEREAS, By placing an emphasis on literacy and education, Waymaker Life Strategies is helping to build stronger, more effective communities, and the efforts of this civic-minded group are an inspiration to citizens throughout the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Waymaker Life Strategies for its contributions to serving children and families in the Sunnyside community and extend to the organization best wishes for continued success with the H.Y.P.E.
