No. 1164R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A well-deserved honor was bestowed on Willie Richard Dean III in April 2004, when he received the Sammy Award for Outstanding First Year Student Leader from Sam Houston State University, becoming the first African American male to win this prestigious accolade; and WHEREAS, The highest recognition given by Sam Houston State University, the Sammy Award honors students, staff, and organizations who excel beyond the normal standards of achievement in the community, university, and scholastics; the 2004 Sammy Award ceremony marked the 10th anniversary of this impressive event, which garners attendance from all of the university's dignitaries; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dean is an outstanding student and campus leader who is a notable role model for other Texans of all ages, and he certainly merits special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Willie Richard Dean III on his receipt of the Sammy Award for Outstanding First Year Student Leader from Sam Houston State University and extend to him warmest best wishes for success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Dean as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
