R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A group of students from W. H. Adamson High School is visiting the State Capitol on April 19, 2005, to learn more about Texas government and history; and WHEREAS, With the 79th Legislative Session well underway, the Capitol Complex is a source of great activity, offering visitors an excellent opportunity to see their state government in action; and WHEREAS, Included in the Adamson High School group are Francisco Alba, Yanet Martinez, Gracie Fernandez, Esmeralda Aguilar, Daniel Salinas, Fatima Macias, Paula Portugal, Arturo Gonzales, Anita Monsivais, Lorena Benitez, Stacy Esquivel, Caesar Valderrama, Juanita Deleon, Sylvia Caraveo, Monica Diaz, Brenda Rizo, Aaron Carrasco, Jose V. Garcia, Isai Esquivel, Nery Pardo, Ariana Gutierrez, Martina Chavez, Lorena Nino, Vicente Espinoza, Joanna Diaz, Yasmin Castro, Lidia Baeza, and Cody Suess; teacher Roger Kallenberg and volunteer chaperones Maria Gomez, Susie Guerra, and Roberto Rodriguez are accompanying the students on their tour; and WHEREAS, During their trip to Austin, the Adamson High School group will have a chance to tour the Capitol and learn more about the fascinating history of this monument to freedom and democracy; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating an appreciation for the heritage we share as Texans, these outstanding young people attend a school that also has a distinguished past; founded as Oak Cliff Central School in 1888, W. H. Adamson High School was annexed by the Dallas Independent School District in 1904 and acquired its present name in 1935 following the death of its namesake, a distinguished educator who served area students for three decades; the school's numerous accomplished alumni include such well-known Texans as former U.S. Speaker of the House Jim Wright, singers Ray Wylie Hubbard and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Samuel David Dealey, astronaut Donald Lee Holmquest, and the first Miss Teenage America, Brenda Broadnax; and WHEREAS, The Texas Capitol is an ideal setting for young and old alike to explore the rich past of the Lone Star State and to gain insight into the workings of our state legislature, and it is a pleasure to welcome these students at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend the visiting students from W. H. Adamson High School on their interest in state government and extend to them sincere best wishes for an informative and memorable visit to the Capitol.
