R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jim R. Phillips of El Paso has been nominated for the
2005 Pioneer Broadcaster of the Year Award to be presented by the
Texas Association of Broadcasters; and
WHEREAS, The chairman of the Wells Fargo Bank Texas, N.A.
community board of directors, Mr. Phillips is also highly regarded
for his impressive experience in broadcasting, which includes
working at KRBC in Abilene and as general sales manager at KFJZ
AM-FM in Fort Worth, serving as president and general manager of
KRIO in McAllen, as chairman and CEO of KHEY in El Paso, and as
chairman of Magic Media, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, A Dallas native, Texas Christian University
alumnus, and veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Phillips is
a valued congregant of Trinity United Methodist Church; he
willingly lends his time and expertise to numerous worthy
organizations, including The University of Texas at El Paso
Development Board, the Candlelighters of El Paso Advisory Board,
the Hospice of El Paso Foundation Board, the El Paso Holocaust
Museum Advisory Board, the Center Against Family Violence, the
Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board, and the
Project Arriba Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Phillips has justly received an array of
accolades for his generosity and leadership, including his 2003
induction into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame; named Broadcaster of
the Year in 1989 by the Texas Association of Broadcasters, and a
Paul Harris Fellow in 2001, he is the recipient of a 2001
Distinguished Service Award from the Rotary Club of El Paso, a 1999
Champion of Caring Award from United Way, and a 1996 LULAC
Humanitarian Award, among others; and
WHEREAS, The husband of Nita Bentley and proud father of
J. R. Phillips, Jim Phillips has earned the respect and admiration
of countless people for his exemplary service to the broadcasting
profession and his community, and he is most deserving of special
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jim R. Phillips for his nomination
for the Texas Association of Broadcasters 2005 Pioneer Broadcaster
of the Year Award, and extend to him sincere best wishes for future
success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Phillips as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
