H.R. No. 1208
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those Texans who demonstrate great courage in
emergency situations are truly deserving of our admiration and
gratitude, and Officer Jaime Esparza of the El Paso Police
Department is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, While on patrol on the morning of August 9, 2004,
Officer Esparza witnessed a head-on collision between a compact car
and a recreational vehicle that caused the larger vehicle to burst
into flames; and
WHEREAS, At great risk to his own safety, Officer Esparza
returned to the burning wreck repeatedly, breaking windows and
using fire extinguishers from other vehicles in his attempts to
secure the safety of the trapped passengers and sustaining cuts,
abrasions, and smoke inhalation in the process; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional act of heroism saved the lives of
numerous people, and in acting as he did, Officer Esparza
distinguished himself as a remarkable member of the law enforcement
community and earned recognition from the El Paso Area Chapter of
the American Red Cross; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Officer Jaime Esparza of the El Paso
Police Department for his heroism and extend to him sincere best
wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Officer Esparza as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
