R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Retired Major General Edward Greer is truly a noteworthy citizen of El Paso, having distinguished himself by his service to both his country and his community; and WHEREAS, A native of Gary, West Virginia, he earned a bachelor's degree in biological science at West Virginia State College and was later named 1963 Alumnus of the Year; and WHEREAS, General Greer is a veteran of three wars, and his decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Army Commendation Medal; and WHEREAS, After 32 years of military service, he retired to El Paso in 1976 with his wife, Jewell, and opened a real estate company; although he has since retired from the real estate business, this remarkable octogenarian continues to take an active part in community affairs; he has served on the boards of the American Cancer Society, the Visiting Nurse Association, the Association of the U.S. Army, and the Salvation Army, and has been chair of the Fort Bliss Retiree Council; and WHEREAS, In addition to his volunteer work, General Greer finds time to meet regularly with retired and active officers from the El Paso and Las Cruces area; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Ed Greer has set an example of dedication to his family, community, and country, and it is a pleasure to honor him at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Retired Major General Edward Greer for his years of civic and military service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for General Greer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
