R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of former El Paso mayor
Thomas D. Westfall were deeply saddened by his passing on March 8,
2005, at the age of 77; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as mayor from 1979 to 1981, Mr.
Westfall became known for his honest and direct manner and his
genuine dedication to the betterment of the community; he brought
to his office a wealth of experience, having served in the Marines
during World War II, earned a law degree from the University of
Illinois, and spent a career working for the federal government;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Westfall was employed for 26 years as a special
agent and executive for the FBI, and following his retirement from
the bureau in 1970, he moved to El Paso, where he became involved in
politics; and
WHEREAS, A valued contributor to civic life, this dedicated
public servant was active in numerous organizations during his time
in Texas, including the El Paso County Historical Society, the El
Paso Archaeological Society, the El Paso Museum of Art, and the
Downtown Rotary Club of El Paso, and he also played a key role in the
founding of the El Paso Archaeological Museum; and
WHEREAS, Although Tom Westfall will long be missed, his
achievements in the public sector will continue to resonate through
the years, for he made a host of positive contributions to the
greater community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas D. Westfall and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
Margie Westfall; to his daughter, Rebecca Dale Westfall; to his
grandchildren; and to his other family members and friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas
D. Westfall.
