H.R. No. 1217
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For the past century, Ferdinand Herff, Jr.,
Elementary School in San Antonio has helped to meet the educational
needs of young people in the River City, and on March 8, 2005, a
ceremony was held to commemorate the school's 100th anniversary and
to celebrate the dedication of two new buildings; and
WHEREAS, Two bond initiatives have resulted in the
construction of all-new facilities on the school's campus,
including a two-story, 26-classroom, multipurpose building with a
music room, library, cafetorium, and gymnasium, and an early
childhood facility with four classrooms; these additions have
improved the learning and teaching experience for students and
teachers and greatly benefit the entire community; and
WHEREAS, The school was built in 1904 on land donated by
Ferdinand Herff, Jr., a member of the San Antonio school board and
son of Dr. Ferdinand Herff, the founder of Santa Rosa Hospital in
San Antonio; 100 years later, it remains a vital and valued part of
the city, and the next century of its existence will undoubtedly
continue the proud tradition of excellence associated with this
venerable institution; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of Ferdinand
Herff, Jr., Elementary School and congratulate all those associated
with the school on the addition of its new facilities; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for prominent display at Ferdinand Herff, Jr., Elementary
School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
Representatives.
