R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may help to comfort the family and friends of James Norman Whitlow of Dallas, who passed away on April 11, 2005, at the age of 79; and WHEREAS, Born to Anna Vaughns Franklin and Tucker Steven Whitlow on May 4, 1925, in Pilot Point, Mr. Whitlow graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas and later served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was a vital member of his community and gave of his time and talents to a host of organizations, including the Bertrand Neighborhood Association, Sharpshooter Sportsman's Club, and the Texas Black Caucus; moreover, he ably served the Dallas County Progressive League as its treasurer for more than 15 years and officiated as a Democratic precinct chair for over 20 years; and WHEREAS, A devout member of True Lee Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas for more than 50 years, Mr. Whitlow drew great strength and sustenance from his faith and served the congregation as a layman; and WHEREAS, James Whitlow will long be remembered for his integrity and strength of character, and although he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he so richly blessed with his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Norman Whitlow and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his children and their spouses, Norman and Susie Whitlow, Robert and Shirley Whitlow, Cheryl Whitlow Rhodes, and Donald and Marva Whitlow; to his siblings and their spouses, Andrew and Minnie Whitlow, Clifton and Bert Franklin, Mattie Franklin, Rex Franklin, and Judy and W. C. Sneed; to his stepchildren, Cheryl and Joe Wilson; to his 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James Norman Whitlow.
