R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, KDFW's Dallas-based television program, "Insights,"
is celebrating its 25th anniversary, a special occasion certainly
worthy of recognition; and
WHEREAS, Created by former KDFW program director, Joe Bell,
"Insights" is one of the longest-running public affairs programs in
the country; focusing on the life and culture of the
African–American community of North Texas, it premiered on January
6, 1980, and since then, has aired more than 1,300 half-hour shows;
as the area has become more diverse, with an increased Hispanic and
Asian population, the program has incorporated stories addressing
the area's wide heritage; and
WHEREAS, The program's first host and current executive
producer, Rochelle Brown, helped develop the magazine show after
working as a morning news anchor and education reporter for KDFW;
today, veteran reporter Shaun Rabb hosts the show, which remains a
celebration of diversity in the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of 25 years, "Insights" has received
many honors, including the Phoebe Award from the Texas Congress of
Parent Teacher Associations and the award for best public affairs
program in America by the National Association of Black
Journalists; it has received numerous Emmy nominations and two Emmy
Awards, most recently receiving a 2004 award for a program on
paternity fraud; and
WHEREAS, The Dallas City Council joined the anniversary
celebration by declaring February 16, 2005, as "Insights" Day in
Dallas, a true mark of distinction that reflects the impact this
program has had on the cultural and civic life of North Texas; and
WHEREAS, There are few television programs that effectively
present serious-minded issues, but "Insights" has been a
torchbearer, setting a standard for journalists and providing its
audience with quality programming; it is a pleasure to recognize
the longevity of such a unique and essential show; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate "Insights" on the occasion of its
25th anniversary and extend to all those who are associated with
this exceptional program sincere best wishes for continued success;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the staff of "Insights" as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
