R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls are celebrating 76 years of service to the youth of the community in 2005; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1929, the first club was conceived by a group of forward-thinking individuals who brought together 72 boys and wished to provide them with a positive atmosphere in which to learn and play; the club originally lacked a central headquarters, but by 1940, it enjoyed a permanent location in an attractive rock structure west of downtown; and WHEREAS, Today, the fully inclusive Boys & Girls Clubs boast seven facilities and a campground and have made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans; in 2003-2004 alone, nearly 6,500 youths visited the clubs, and a total of $50,000 in scholarships was awarded; and WHEREAS, Recognizing that children are the Lone Star State's most valuable resource, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls have long encouraged young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls on their 76th anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
