R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Reverend Hoyt Hunnicutt and the members of Elm
Grove Baptist Church in Fayette County observed the
sesquicentennial of the church's founding on April 9, 2005; and
WHEREAS, A highlight of the day's festivities was a special
guest speaker, the Reverend Henry Adrion III, now retired, whose
pastorship of Elm Grove began his notable tenure in the ministry; he
answered the call to lead the church while a junior at Trinity
University, was soon ordained, and led the small congregation
before pastoring churches throughout the state and later joining
the staff of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive
Board; and
WHEREAS, From the beginning, the church and its members have
been instrumental in the establishment of numerous programs for the
betterment of the congregation and the greater community; Reverend
Hunnicutt has generously shared his deep faith and guidance since
becoming the church's pastor 15 years ago; Robert Johnson is the
music minister and Doris Jean Halliburton Weber is the historian;
and
WHEREAS, For 150 years, Elm Grove Baptist Church has been a
blessing in the lives of generations of Texans, and it is a pleasure
to commend its pastor and members as they pay tribute to the rich
history of their church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Elm Grove Baptist Church on the
joyous occasion of its sesquicentennial and extend to all involved
with the church sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
