R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Miriam M. Barrientos has been selected the 2004
Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club of McAllen, and she
truly merits special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious honor, sponsored by the Readers
Digest Foundation and administered by the Boys and Girls Clubs of
America, is presented to young Americans who demonstrate superior
leadership skills and academic achievement as well as outstanding
service in behalf of Boys and Girls Clubs and their wider
communities; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her six-year membership with the Boys and
Girls Club of McAllen, Ms. Barrientos has set a sterling example as
a mentor and role model; in addition to her scholastic
responsibilities, this impressive young woman serves as track
manager for the Rowe High School track team, participates with her
school band and in UIL activities, and is a member of the Fellowship
of Christian Athletes, the FFA, and the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Miriam Barrientos makes a positive difference in the
lives of countless people, and it is appropriate to take this
opportunity to honor her on her recent achievement; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Miriam M. Barrientos on being named
the 2004 Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club of McAllen and
extend to her sincere best wishes for happiness and prosperity in
the coming years; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Barrientos as an expression of high regard from the
Texas House of Representatives.
