R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Half a century of marriage is truly cause for
celebration, and on January 12, 2005, Louis and Bertilia "Bertie"
Pedraza of Houston observed this significant milestone in their
life together; and
WHEREAS, The couple met at a birthday party for a mutual
friend, during which his future bride said of Mr. Pedraza, "That's
my man!"; despite the well-meaning advice of friends and family
that their Aquarius-Taurus match would be incompatible, Mr. Pedraza
and the former Bertie Elizondo were married seven years later at
Holy Name Catholic Church in the Bayou City by Father Patrick
Flores, who later served as the archbishop of the Diocese of San
Antonio before his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Since becoming husband and wife, Mr. and Mrs.
Pedraza have nurtured a rewarding relationship that has been
blessed with three children, Rita Louise Carey, Sylvia Diane
Lundberg, and Richard Louis Pedraza, and they have welcomed the
joys of grandparenting with the arrival of Tara Messimer, Shawn
Ryan Messimer, Aaron Barnum, and Rickie, Bethanie, Lynsie, and
Besie Pedraza; and
WHEREAS, Now enjoying their well-deserved retirement, Mrs.
Pedraza was a dedicated homemaker while her children were growing
up, and later accepted a position in the banking industry, while Mr.
Pedraza was employed with the Southern Pacific Railroad; and
WHEREAS, This devoted couple have shared the many trials and
triumphs of five decades of marriage and parenthood, and they are to
be commended for their enduring union; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby warmly congratulate Louis and Bertie Pedraza on
the happy occasion of their golden wedding anniversary and extend
to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
