                                                                  H.R. No. 1268



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Gilberto Velasco is an outstanding role model and 
hardworking businessman who retired from the Parks and Wildlife 
Department in February 2000 after an impressive career that covered 
almost three decades; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Velasco began his employment with the Parks and 
Wildlife Department in December 1971 as a park ranger at Fort Leaton 
State Historic Site, and he retired as a maintenance supervisor 
overseeing operations at Big Bend Ranch, Barton  Warnock 
Environmental Education Center in Lajitas, and Mesquite Ranch; and
	WHEREAS, A valued and lifelong resident of Presidio, Mr. 
Velasco is a former member of the board of the Presidio Independent 
School District and has made other significant contributions to his 
community through his participation in the Presidio Lions Club and 
Knights of Columbus; in 1986, he started his own business, 
Velasco's Dump Truck and Backhoe Service, and he continues to serve 
his community with his many talents and skills; and
	WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Velasco has enjoyed the 
love and support of his wife, Carolina Granado Velasco, and his 
children, Ricardo and Nora; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Velasco served the State of Texas with integrity 
and dedication, earning the lasting respect of all who were 
privileged to work with him, and it is a pleasure to recognize him 
for his many achievements during his employment with the Parks and 
Wildlife Department and his efforts that have benefited the people 
of the Presidio area; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby commend Gilberto Velasco on his service to his 
community and this state and extend to him best wishes for the 
future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Velasco as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
