H.R. No. 1274
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Rio Grande Valley Academy of General Dentistry
seeks to advance excellence in the field of general dentistry and to
contribute to the well-being of residents in the Rio Grande Valley;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1987, the RGV-AGD is a component of
the Texas Academy of General Dentistry and the national Academy of
General Dentistry; and
WHEREAS, The RGV-AGD focuses primarily on providing quality
continuing education to the dental community in its region and
holds several continuing dental education seminars every year; the
group donates 20 percent of the profits of its major seminar to
Dentists Who Care, Inc., a nonprofit group of Valley dentists who
provide charity dental care to local underprivileged children; and
WHEREAS, Members of the RGV-AGD have helped the Texas AGD by
translating important dental information from English into
Spanish; they have also served as volunteers for dental information
telethons, where they are able to convey information in both
English and Spanish to area residents; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the RGV-AGD is the only component of
the AGD in Texas to offer a scholarship; for the past three years,
the group has presented an annual $1,000 grant to a student from the
Rio Grande Valley entering dental school; and
WHEREAS, In tribute to its leadership, service, and education
efforts, the RGV-AGD was designated the Component of the Year by the
Texas AGD in 2004, becoming the first local academy to ever receive
that prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Members of the RGV-AGD are committed to the pursuit
of lifelong learning in order to better serve the people of the Rio
Grande Valley, and their outstanding dedication to their profession
is indeed deserving of commendation at this time; and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized the
RGV-AGD by authoring this resolution in its behalf during the
Regular Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Rio Grande Valley Academy of General
Dentistry for its notable contributions to the advancement of
general dentistry and for its exemplary service to the people of its
community; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Rio Grande Valley Academy of General Dentistry as
an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
