R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, June 10, 2005, is a special day of celebration, for
it marks the 70th birthday of an esteemed resident of Dallas,
Marlene Mottwiler Horner; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Hugo Mottwiler, Mrs. Horner has a
distinguished Texas lineage, as her great-grandfather, William
Alexander Harwood, was a prominent figure in the early settlement
of Dallas, who went on to serve as both county clerk and district
clerk for the young city in the latter half of the 19th century; not
only is Harwood Street named for this branch of Mrs. Horner's
family, but the naming of Peak Street also traces its origins back
to the family as well, as Mr. Harwood was married to the former
Sarah Peak; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Horner herself grew up in the community of
Urbandale, now part of Dallas proper, and attended Urban Park
Elementary School, J. L. Long Middle School, and the former Forrest
Avenue High School in her formative years; and
WHEREAS, An apt heir to the proud heritage of the Dallas
community, Mrs. Horner grew up alongside the city, becoming a vital
and valued citizen in her own right; she became the bride of Charles
Horner on June 22, 1952, and today her beloved family includes four
sons, Dwayne, Craig, Mark, and Mike, all of whom reside in the
Dallas area and look to this remarkable woman with great affection
and admiration; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Marlene Mottwiler Horner on the joyous
occasion of her 70th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Horner as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
