H.R. No. 1285


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The renovation of the Archer County courthouse is being celebrated with a rededication ceremony on May 12, 2005; and WHEREAS, Originally completed in 1892, the courthouse was designed by A. N. Dawson and constructed of sandstone in a Romanesque Revival style; it has undergone several restorations, including a massive refurbishment in the 1920s, when a dome, a cupola, and a central clock tower were removed; in 1960, the county installed air conditioning and instigated several cosmetic changes to the building's interior; and WHEREAS, Today, the courthouse is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is home to the offices of the county judge and treasurer, the commissioners court meeting room, the district courtroom and associated offices, and a law library and grand jury room; a generous grant from the Texas Historical Commission assisted in the completion of the latest restoration; and WHEREAS, Residents of Archer County strive to preserve their region's heritage, while looking ahead to the practical needs of the future, and it is a pleasure to recognize their achievements at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Archer County on the occasion of the rededication of its newly renovated historic courthouse; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for display in the courthouse as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
