R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, State Representative Sid Miller of Stephenville earned national acclaim in September 2004 when he was named the United States Calf Roping Association's World Champion; and WHEREAS, Amidst the pain of two ruptured discs, Representative Miller managed to not only claim the prestigious title, but set a world record as well; in recognition of his outstanding showing, this lariat-wielding legislator was awarded a cash prize, a silver belt buckle, and a new saddle, which is proudly displayed in his office; and WHEREAS, Representative Miller's life as a cowboy began years ago when he was a member of the Cisco Junior College rodeo team, although it has been said that his favorite event was actually attending the dances after the competitions; following a 27-year break, he returned to the rodeo arena when his youngest son, Joseph, wanted to learn the sport and needed a seasoned veteran to literally show him the ropes; and WHEREAS, With a reignited passion, Representative Miller donned his boots and before long was roping a hundred calves a week for practice, honing his competitive edge, spending quality time with his son, and having the time of his life; and WHEREAS, Calf roping has become quite the family affair in the Miller household; in fact, Representative Miller's September victory saw him best both his son and his brother, Dustin Miller, who is a Select World calf roping champion and the trainer of the Millers' faithful steeds, Chigger and Pearl; and WHEREAS, Whether in the saddle or on the house floor, Representative Sid Miller has lassoed the lasting respect and admiration of all who are privileged to know him, and at this time it is indeed a pleasure to tip our hats in his direction; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate our colleague Sid Miller on winning the United States Calf Roping Association World Championship and setting a world record, and extend to him sincere best wishes for catchable calves, timely tie–downs, and freedom from fractures in the years to come; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Representative Miller as an expression of high regard by his fellow members in the Texas House of Representatives.
