H.R. No. 1291


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and loving moments may comfort the family and friends of Frankie Reid Neal Moore, who passed away on April 19, 2005, at the age of 94; and WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Houston, Mrs. Moore was born in Newnan, Georgia, on August 31, 1910, and earned her bachelor's degree from Clark College in Atlanta and her master's degree in guidance and counseling from Texas Southern University; this dynamic woman enjoyed an outstanding career as a science teacher and guidance counselor for Houston ISD, enhancing the lives of innumerable young Texans through the years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was a highly regarded member of her community and gave of her time and talents to a host of organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the National Education Association, and the Girl Scouts of America, who honored her with the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, the highest award for volunteer service in scouting; moreover, she was a woman of deep faith and a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Houston, the church her husband, Pastor John D. Moore, led before his death, and an associate member of Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ in Lancaster; and WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, Mrs. Moore made a loving home for her husband, and her two daughters, Karna and E. Dametta, and she also set an inspiring example for others in her role as a pastor's wife; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Frankie Moore will long remember her for her many endearing qualities, and although she will be greatly missed, her legacy will live on in the hearts of all the people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Frankie Reid Neal Moore and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter, Karna Moore Burkeen; to her grandsons, Derrick N. Evans, Michael K. Burkeen and his wife, Annette, and Kenneth J. Burkeen; to her great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Edward Burkeen; to her niece, Clara Dodson Delaney; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frankie Reid Neal Moore.
