R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Doris M. Jackson of Houston is being honored with the Elva K. Steward Alumni of the Year Award by the T. F. Freeman Ministers/Laity Summit at Texas Southern University, and her selection comes as no surprise to her peers, for she has long given generously of her time and resources to benefit others; and WHEREAS, An associate professor at the Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Dr. Jackson has touched the lives of countless students over the course of her 15-year career and has drawn on her education and expertise to make a positive impact in the greater community; and WHEREAS, To that end, Dr. Jackson has served as a mentor and workshop coordinator for the Youth for Christ Foundation, helping young people to develop Christian values, leadership skills, and common sense, and she has helped to coordinate such community events as health fairs, youth leadership conferences, and parades; and WHEREAS, She has also served as chair of the T. F. Freeman Ministers/Laity Summit Board of Advisors, as general chair of the Health and Educational Article Review Board for the Houston Forward Times newspaper, and as a director of continuing clinical service for the National Pharmaceutical Association; and WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has expressed her dedication to the welfare of others in many lasting and meaningful ways, and she is indeed deserving of legislative recognition for her outstanding efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Doris M. Jackson on her receipt of the Elva K. Steward Alumni of the Year Award and commend her for the many significant contributions she has made to the betterment of her community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
