H.R. No. 1294


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Janice Guidry Gibson of Houston, who passed away on March 14, 2005, at the age of 56; and WHEREAS, Born to Alfred and Geraldine Guidry on November 20, 1948, Ms. Gibson graduated from Kashmere High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in communications from the University of Houston and an MBA from The University of Texas Graduate School of Business; subsequently, she completed the Minority Business Executive Program at Dartmouth University and received a certification in training and development from the University of Oklahoma; and WHEREAS, Ms. Gibson was a pioneer among African American women in Houston's public relations community, and enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned more than three decades; in addition to founding her own company, Three G Communications, in 1991, she planned and executed local, regional, and national communications efforts at Coca-Cola Foods, Metropolitan Transit Authority, the City of Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston ISD, and Louisiana National Bank; and WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Gibson gave of her time and talents as an instructor at Texas A&M University, Houston Baptist College, and the University of Houston; moreover, she served on the boards of the Houston Minority Business Council, the Women's Business Enterprise Alliance, and the University of Houston Small Business Development Center; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was also a devout Christian who, after years of teaching the Bible and serving in the music ministry, founded her own faith-based organization, Foresight Ministries; she authored several inspirational and instructural books and was a much-sought-after motivational speaker at conferences and other events; and WHEREAS, A true inspiration to all who were privileged to know her, Janice Gibson will long be remembered for her zest for life and her dedication to her work and her community; although she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she so richly blessed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Janice Guidry Gibson and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her sisters, Pamela Guidry Whitaker and Paula Guidry Landy; to her nephew and nieces, Gerald, Dione, and Ashley; to her great-nieces, Taylor and Kayla; to her goddaughters, Dione, Robyn, and Brittany; and to all who mourn the passing of this exceptional woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Janice Guidry Gibson.
