R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to recognize the Abstinence Council of Texas; and WHEREAS, Founded by abstinence leaders from around the state, the Abstinence Council of Texas was created to provide a unified source of information and networking opportunities for those interested in abstinence education; and WHEREAS, The goal of this organization is to reduce nonmarital pregnancies, adolescent participation in high-risk behaviors, and the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases; and WHEREAS, The State of Texas requires that any course material related to human sexuality direct adolescents to abstinence as the most effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases; and WHEREAS, According to the National Center for Health Statistics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, abstinence education has been a leading factor in the decline in teen sexual activity and teen pregnancies over the last decade; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize April 27, 2005, as Abstinence Awareness Day and welcome the members of the Abstinence Council of Texas to the Capitol for this occasion; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the council as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
