R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those Texans who react quickly and appropriately in
emergencies are truly deserving of our admiration and gratitude,
and Faith Smith of Jacksonville is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, An eighth-grader in Darvin Hooker's health class at
Jacksonville Middle School, Ms. Smith had recently learned
cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a special CPR training class
taught by Jamie Maddox and so was well prepared when her own family
confronted a potentially grave medical crisis on January 3, 2005;
and
WHEREAS, On that day, her uncle began to experience chest
pains and then became unresponsive; as her mother called 9-1-1, Ms.
Smith administered CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived;
and
WHEREAS, In acting swiftly and correctly during a crisis, Ms.
Smith surely averted a terrible tragedy while demonstrating
admirable calmness and a maturity beyond her years; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Faith Smith of Jacksonville for her
actions in an emergency and extend to her sincere best wishes for
the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
