R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jimmy Jackson of Angleton has demonstrated exceptional patriotism and compassion by personally constructing a memorial for the American soldiers killed in Iraq; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to honoring the memory of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, Mr. Jackson has placed handmade crosses on his fence, one for each fallen soldier; and WHEREAS, Today, more than two years after the onset of the war, 1,544 crosses may be found on Mr. Jackson's 100-foot-long wooden fence; adding to his homage, this devoted American has placed small Texas flags next to 147 of the crosses to further honor soldiers from the Lone Star State, and he has set up a large metal cross to commemorate those killed in Afghanistan and flies the flags of the United States armed forces every day; and WHEREAS, As citizens of a democracy, it is imperative that we honor those who have laid down their lives to protect our ideals of freedom, and Mr. Jackson's tribute is not only a comfort to those families who have lost their loved ones, but an example to us all; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby recognize Jimmy Jackson for constructing a memorial for American soldiers killed in Iraq and commend him for his concern for others; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
