H.R. No. 1374


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Dr. Joseph Montgomery-Davis of Raymondville, who passed away on January 14, 2005, at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, this dedicated physician was certified in family practice and osteopathic manipulative medicine; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Montgomery-Davis enjoyed an exceptional career of service to others; in addition to maintaining a general and family practice in Raymondville since 1975, he served as chief of medical staff at Willacy County Hospital District, as a clinical associate professor in the Department of General Family Practice at the University of North Texas Health Science Center's Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, and as a medical staff member of Retama Manor Nursing Home; and WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Montgomery-Davis lent his time and talents to a number of professional organizations, including the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, a group he served as president, consultant, board trustee, and committee chair; he was also a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), Texas ACOFP, Texas Medical Foundation, and other medical organizations, committees, advisory councils, boards, and commissions, each of which greatly benefited from his involvement; and WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of his professional achievements, Dr. Montgomery-Davis received a Special Recognition Award from the ACOFP, and he was named the General Practitioner of the Year in 1989 by the Texas ACOFP, which also honored him with the T. R. Sharp Meritorious Service Award; and WHEREAS, Dr. Joseph Montgomery-Davis exemplified the highest ideals of his profession, and whether serving the underprivileged or mentoring his fellow physicians, he left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joseph Montgomery-Davis and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Maria G. Montgomery-Davis; to his stepdaughter, LaMarr G. Vasquez and her husband, Raymond; to his sister, Gloria Lillicotch; to his brother, Tommy "Maxine" Swontek and his children, Sonna and Daltan; to his goddaughter, Mandy Falcon; to his sister-in-law, Elvira Ivancso; to his brothers-in-law, J. J. and Frank Quiroz; to his three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and to the other relatives and friends of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Joseph Montgomery-Davis.
