R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is truly cause for celebration, and on May 14, 2005, John and Mary Peden of Van are marking this significant milestone in their long and happy union; and WHEREAS, This loving couple were joined in matrimony at the Van United Methodist Church on May 14, 1955; devoted to their close-knit family, they are the parents of five children, Debbie Carter, Kim Campbell, Andy Peden, Angie Reed, and the late Scott Peden; they have also welcomed into the fold sons- and daughter-in-law Randy Carter, Jed Campbell, Christi Peden, and Kevin Reed, and 11 grandchildren, Mark, Sheila, Christen, and Scott Carter, Cody and Josh Campbell, Hillary and Hannah Shockley, and Holley, Hope, and Hallye Peden; and WHEREAS, Graduates of Van High School, the couple have been respected and active residents of their East Texas community for decades; Mr. Peden, now retired from a distinguished career in the petroleum industry, is a longtime member of the local and national branches of the Association of Petroleum Landmen; moreover, he has served on the Van ISD Board of Trustees, on the board of directors of the Van First State Bank, and as a deacon at Pruitt Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Peden, a dedicated mother and homemaker, has served as founding director and first president of the Van ISD Education Foundation and as president of the Van High School Bank Parents, the Van PTA, the Van Kiwanis Club, and the Van Chamber of Commerce; currently treasurer of Pruitt Baptist Church, she was honored for her contributions in both 1973 and 1999 by the chamber as Citizen of the Year; and WHEREAS, The enduring marriage of John and Mary Peden serves as an inspiration and joy to all who know them, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate John and Mary Peden on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Peden as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
