R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful moments and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family of Athalene Miller Griffin of Sherwood, Arkansas, who died on March 31, 2001, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Marble Falls, Mrs. Griffin was born in 1918 in Abilene and attended Hardin-Simmons University, where she was an honor student, before earning a degree from The University of Texas at El Paso; following her education, Mrs. Griffin enjoyed a long and rewarding career as an educator; and WHEREAS, This notable woman was married to Walter E. "Dick" Griffin for many years, and she took great pride in her four children, including the late Sharla Griffin, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Griffin was known and admired for her strength of character, as well as for the kindness and compassion she bestowed on all who were privileged to know her; moreover, she was a woman of spiritual depth who drew great comfort and sustenance from her faith; and WHEREAS, Athalene Griffin will long be remembered for her selfless devotion to her family and friends, and although she is greatly missed, her legacy lives on in the hearts of those whose lives she so richly blessed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Athalene Miller Griffin and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons, Richard and Kenneth Griffin; to her daughter, Janis West; to her grandchildren, Richard, Ross, Rosalind, and Travis Griffin, Madeline and Dinah West, and Jenny Bergeron; to her great–grandchildren, Ian and Samantha Griffin; to her sister, Claire Scott; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Athalene Miller Griffin.
