R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Janet M. Schwanke of San Antonio is retiring from the United States Air Force in July 2005, after a stellar 20-year career in the service of her country; and WHEREAS, A native of Columbus, Wisconsin, Sergeant Schwanke graduated with high honors from Sun Prairie High School in June 1985; she joined the air force the following month and completed her basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in the Alamo City; afterward, she undertook technical training as a communications-computer systems operator at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi; and WHEREAS, Presently, Sergeant Schwanke serves as an air force/Department of Defense intelligence information systems software security certifier, assigned to the Air Force Command and Control & Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Center at Lackland; her previous assignments included an initial posting at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, followed by work with communications squadrons at Galena Airport in Alaska and Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, with the United States Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, and with the 611th Air Intelligence Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Schwanke honed her leadership and management skills at the NCO and Senior NCO Academies, while also continuing academic training in her field; she earned a degree in information systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force in 1995 and a bachelor's degree in management computer information systems in 2004; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Sergeant Schwanke's outstanding performance of her duties has earned her recognition as an NCO Preparatory Course distinguished graduate and NCO Academy distinguished graduate, as well as Intelligence Directorate NCO of the Year for two years in a row and 11th Air Force Intelligence Contributor of the Year for two years running; in addition, she was designated Pacific Air Forces Intelligence Contributor of the Year in 2001 and Unit Level C&I Information Assurance Professional for 2004; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Schwanke is the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal; moreover, she has garnered numerous awards and letters of appreciation for her work with the community; and WHEREAS, Greatly respected for her unfailing professionalism, significant expertise, and consistent commitment to excellence, Sergeant Schwanke has embodied the highest standards of the United States armed forces, and her efforts in this nation's behalf are deserving of her fellow citizens' deepest respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Master Sergeant Janet M. Schwanke on the occasion of her retirement from the United States Air Force and extend to her profound appreciation for her exemplary military service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Sergeant Schwanke as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
