R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Austin's Pillow Elementary School has been named a 
national Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education; 
and
	WHEREAS, The only Capital City campus to be so designated, 
Pillow Elementary is recognized as a learning environment that is 
committed to the exemplary academic performance of all its 
students; and
	WHEREAS, Nominated by the Texas Education Agency, Pillow 
Elementary School has seen the passing rate of its students on 
standardized tests increase from 76 percent of students to 100 
percent over a three-year period, while the percentage of minority 
and low-income students passing the mathematics assessment 
escalated from as low as 50 percent to 100 percent; and
	WHEREAS, The students and faculty at Pillow Elementary School 
have performed admirably in their quest for academic excellence, 
and their notable achievement in earning national Blue Ribbon 
School status indeed merits special praise; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby commend principal Anita Najar, former principal 
Linda Webb, and the students, faculty, staff, and parents of Pillow 
Elementary School on its selection as a Blue Ribbon School by the 
U.S. Department of Education; and, be it further

	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
