R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ola Mae Archie Williams of Dallas has been selected as a Godly Woman--Living Legacy by the Women and Girls' Conference of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas; and WHEREAS, This selfless and inspiring leader is a valued member of Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she has given unstintingly of her time and talents; in addition to serving on the Usher Board and the Big Four Building Fund, Finance, Pulpit, Benevolent, and Culinary Committees, she has sung in the Willing Workers Choir and served as an advisor to the Youth and Young Adult Choir; moreover, she has served as a sponsor of the Youth Church and as director of the Junior Church, as a youth Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, and as a drill team coordinator; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams has been active in her church at the district level as well, working as a youth sponsor and as a Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress teacher; she pursued her own studies at the Southern Bible Institute, graduating with the Class of 1987; and WHEREAS, Her strong desire to serve has found further expression through her involvement in the Sunrise Temple Elks Lodge and the Eastern Star, and she is proud to be a Purple Cross Nurse; and WHEREAS, A 1955 graduate of the Baylor School of Nursing, Mrs. Williams has worked as a nurse at Baylor Hospital, as an emergency room nurse at Parkland Memorial Hospital, and as head registrar of the Licensed Vocational Nurses Association, where she was the first African American to hold that position; and WHEREAS, Ola Mae Williams is a continuing source of inspiration to her granddaughter, Andrea LaMonica Williams-Bennett, to her grandson, Minister Jereld L. Williams, and to her 12 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, The second annual Women and Girls' Conference is being held in Dallas on April 29-30, 2005, and during the program introducing this year's honorees, Mrs. Williams is being escorted by her great-granddaughter Isis Yvonne Williams; and WHEREAS, Nurtured by her great and abiding faith, Mrs. Williams has been an unfailing source of strength, comfort, and encouragement to many, and this impressive honor is a fitting tribute to her lifetime of loving mentorship and service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend Ola Mae Archie Williams on her recognition as a Godly Woman--Living Legacy by the Women and Girls' Conference of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes on this joyful occasion; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
