R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, El Paso native Rudy Tellez worked in the field of
broadcasting for nearly 40 years, and his accomplishments are
certainly worthy of special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Tellez, who now lives in Albuquerque, graduated
from El Paso High School and The University of Texas at El Paso; he
began his professional career at KTSM, where he hosted Morning
Watch, The 4:30 Hop, and Off the Record; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed professional produced The Tonight
Show from 1967 until 1971, The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters, The
Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder, and Battle of the Network Stars; at
the request of Jerry Lewis, he produced the first televised
muscular dystrophy telethon, which was broadcast in 1969, the same
year he established the Rudy Tellez Scholarship in Communications
for students at UTEP; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Tellez has received two Emmy awards for
excellence in television production, and he has been named a UTEP
Outstanding Ex-Student; he founded Telco Entertainment with his
wife, Tenaya Torres-Tellez, and became personal manager for a
number of sports and entertainment figures; and
WHEREAS, With steadfast determination, Rudy Tellez has
achieved great success in his chosen profession, and his
hardworking spirit is truly an inspiration to the residents of his
home state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Rudy Tellez for his achievements in
television production and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Tellez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
