R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Isadore J. Kahn, former executive and president of Kahn's Sunbeam Bakery, on March 23, 2005, has deeply saddened his family and many friends throughout his native El Paso; and WHEREAS, Born on December 10, 1914, Mr. Kahn graduated from El Paso High School and enrolled at the University of Southern California, where he pledged the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration; and WHEREAS, He returned to his hometown after college and joined the business founded by his father, Simon Kahn; for the next 58 years, he was employed with Kahn's Sunbeam Bakery, and in 1972 he was elected president; and WHEREAS, In 1939, he married Ruth Blaugrund and with her enjoyed a fulfilling marriage until her passing; blessed with three children, Mr. Kahn saw his family grow to include seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Well-liked for his warm and outgoing nature, Mr. Kahn was president of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, a board member of Hebrew Union College and the El Paso Jewish Federation, and a congregant of B'nai Zion Synagogue and Temple Mount Sinai, the latter of which he served as president; and WHEREAS, A Kiwanian and former board member of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, he was also a member of the El Maida Shrine of El Paso and a supporter of The University of Texas at El Paso and its athletics department; and WHEREAS, Isadore Kahn was truly a blessing in the lives of countless individuals, and he will long be missed by those fortunate enough to have known his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and accomplishments of Isadore J. Kahn and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Ellen Dorfman and Dr. Stuart Kahn; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to his sister, Miriam Goldfarb, and brother, Louis Kahn; and to his other relatives and many dear friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Isadore J. Kahn.
