R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, At 82 years of age, Betty Barrie of El Paso maintains
an active fitness regimen, and she remains a source of inspiration
to all who know her; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Barrie is highly accomplished, having raised
three children and worked for many years in management at White
Sands Missile Range; she also worked at Fort Bliss, where in 1997
she received the Commander's Award for Civilian Service; moreover,
Mrs. Barrie has served as president of the El Paso Business and
Professional Women's Club, is an avid jogger, walker, and bowler,
and has traveled to 49 states and 21 countries; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, this remarkable woman will once again take
part in the annual El Paso Senior Games; a participant in the event
since 1998, she has amassed more than 350 trophies, medals,
ribbons, plaques, and other awards through the years, and she was
inducted into the El Paso Senior Games Hall of Fame in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating athleticism and a true zest for life,
Betty Barrie lives each day to the fullest, proving that physical
activity can greatly enhance the lives of seniors who stay young at
heart; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Betty Barrie for her myriad achievements
and congratulate her on her continued participation in the El Paso
Senior Games; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Barrie as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
