R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, La Rosa Family Services in Houston was established in 1995 to furnish a safe, empowering environment for victims of domestic violence and abuse and to help prevent future violence; and WHEREAS, Serving an average of 160 people a week, La Rosa Family Services offers not only an emergency refuge, but also counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, and prevention education; in addition, area residents can benefit from the organization's health fairs, mentoring, and an emergency 24-hour crisis hotline; and WHEREAS, Staffed by knowledgeable and caring professionals, it also provides referrals to appropriate state and local agencies and collaborating organizations, as well as conducts training classes for law enforcement, medical, and social service personnel; and WHEREAS, For a decade, this invaluable facility has been a valuable source of support, education, and services essential for overcoming domestic violence, and it is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor La Rosa Family Services on its 10th anniversary and commend all those associated with the group for their dedication and contributions to the community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
