R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Allene Barr White of Temple, the mother of our
esteemed colleague, Representative Dianne Delisi, passed away on
April 18, 2005, at the age of 85, and the loss of this beloved woman
has deeply saddened all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of a Methodist pastor, Allene White was
born on August 16, 1919, in Laredo; she married the love of her
life, Dr. Raleigh R. White III, a surgeon, in 1940, and while he
served in the Pacific during World War II, she earned her teacher's
certificate and graduated from Southwestern University in
Georgetown; after the war, the couple settled in Temple, where Mrs.
White lived for 60 years and actively contributed to the spiritual
and civic fabric of the community; and
WHEREAS, She was a dedicated member of First United Methodist
Church and taught Sunday school classes for 25 years; she was also a
committed member of countless organizations, including the Arno Art
League, the Domestic Science Club, the Antique Glass Club, the
Temple Federated Women's Club, the Medical Auxiliary, and her
dearly loved sewing club; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. White was well known for her caring
disposition, lovely singing voice, and generous spirit; she was
genuinely interested in the well-being and happiness of all she
encountered, and provided a nurturing home life for her cherished
husband and children; and
WHEREAS, This avid gardener loved flowers, especially
gardenias and sweetheart roses, and like her favorite flora, Allene
White brought sweetness and joy into the lives of many people
through her devotion to her faith and love of family; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Allene Barr White and
extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her son,
Dr. Raleigh R. White IV; to her daughters, Dianne White Delisi and
Mary Alice White Fifield; to her grandchildren, Annie Delisi
Strain, Ted Delisi, Raleigh R. White V, Webb Haberle White, Charles
H. Fifield II, Katie C. Fifield Shugars, and Abigail White Fifield;
to her five great-grandchildren; to her sister, Genevieve Daniel;
and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Allene Barr
White.
