R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
meaningful accomplishments may comfort and console the family of
Alicia Alamia Rodriguez of Edinburg, who passed from this life on
February 12, 2005, at the age of 94; and
WHEREAS, Born in Edinburg to prominent Hidalgo County
residents Jose and Olivia Vela Alamia on June 24, 1910, this notable
woman wed Amador C. Rodriguez on February 2, 1927, and enjoyed a
marriage that was blessed with seven children, 25 grandchildren,
and 37 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her roles as wife, mother, and
grandmother, Mrs. Rodriguez left an indelible mark on the community
she was proud to call home; the first director of the Albores Child
Day Care Center, she founded the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Court No.
1993 of Edinburg (Catholic Daughters of America), volunteered with
the Edinburg General Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and partnered with
Mrs. Harry Skinner as a children's clothing designer and
seamstress; moreover, she was an invaluable member of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church and gave generously of her time and talents to the
church's altar society for many years; and
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Alicia Alamia
Rodriguez will remember her love of family and community, and
although she will be greatly missed, her legacy will live on in the
hearts of all those whose lives she so richly blessed with her
kindness and generosity; and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Peña has justly paid tribute to
the life of Alicia Alamia Rodriguez by authoring this resolution in
her memory during the Regular Session of the 79th Texas
Legislature; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alicia Alamia
Rodriguez and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family:
to her children, Joe, Eduardo, and Romeo Rodriguez, and Diana
Taylor, Cristina Flores, and Alicia Booth, and their spouses; to
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and to all who mourn the
passing of this beloved woman; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alicia
Alamia Rodriguez.
