H.R. No. 1460


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Dr. Robert Reeve has rendered outstanding service to The University of Texas--Pan American, and his hard work and dedication are being acknowledged by the university with the establishment of an endowed scholarship in his name; and WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, this distinguished Texan has taught courses in instructional technology, research, curriculum, and science education and served as the first chair of the combined Elementary and Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Department; and WHEREAS, The founder of the UTPA College of Education Collaborative for Science and Mathematics, Dr. Reeve has worked diligently to gain tuition grants for teachers in the schools of Willacy, Starr, and Hidalgo Counties, with more than 120 area educators benefiting from his efforts; and WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Reeve has cultivated a relationship with The University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston (UTHSC-H), leading to distance learning courses for teachers, greater communication between local teachers and researchers, and participation by researchers in distance learning in area schools; moreover, he has helped to raise more than $750,000 in tuition grants from UTHSC-H, NASA, the Regional Science Collaborative, and Frito-Lay; and WHEREAS, A credit to his field, Dr. Reeve has had a profound impact on education in the State of Texas, and the establishment of the Robert Reeve Endowed Scholarship for Science Education is indeed well-deserved; and WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized Dr. Reeve by passing this resolution in his behalf during the Regular Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Robert Reeve on the establishment of the Robert Reeve Endowed Scholarship for Science Education and commend him for his contributions to The University of Texas--Pan American; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Reeve as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
