R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of Parker has distinguished itself as a top community in the State of Texas for recycling; and WHEREAS, On April 2, 2005, residents demonstrated their commitment to the environment during Texas Trash-Off Day, when more than 250 volunteers helped to clean up 19 miles of this small suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; the city began participating in this annual event in 2001, in memory of former Mayor Bill Wade, and it continues to bring together friends and neighbors to work in concert to improve the city they are proud to call home; and WHEREAS, Throughout the year, nearly 70 percent of the city's 1,500 residents recycle paper, plastic, and other appropriate materials, and this environmental ethic is undoubtedly one of the reasons Parker was rated the most desirable suburb in Collin County by D Magazine; and WHEREAS, Sustaining the state's natural resources requires the responsibility and determination of its citizens, and the residents of Parker realize the value of conserving as individuals and as a community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the city of Parker for its outstanding performance during Texas Trash-Off Day and commend area residents for their commitment to recycling.
