R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
temper the profound sadness that the passing of Deborah Wester
Jacob of Dallas on April 20, 2005, has brought to all who knew and
loved her; and
WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Dr. Jacob was born
in Longview on May 24, 1952, and graduated as valedictorian from
Nacogdoches High School in 1970; she went on to earn her bachelor's
degree with highest honors from Texas Tech University, where she
was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and president of Mortar Board;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jacob was a lifelong learner, later earning a
master's degree in education from the University of North Texas and
returning to earn her doctorate; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed educator worked for the Garland
Independent School District for 30 years, serving as an English
teacher and department chair at North Garland High School,
assistant principal of Garland High School, principal of Lyles
Middle School, and director of secondary schools before her
retirement in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Jacob was a highly respected and much-loved
member of her community; she benefited countless students with her
encouragement, and she is deeply missed by all those who were
privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the life of Deborah Wester Jacob and
extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
husband, Will Jacob; to her stepdaughter, Chrissi McKown and her
husband, Bill; to her grandchildren, Kaleigh and Cole McKown; to
her brother, John Wester and his wife, Karan; to her nephews, Justin
and Jeremy Wester; and to her other relatives and many friends; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Deborah
Wester Jacob.
