R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends deeply mourn the untimely passing of Hermes Villarreal of San Juan on April 19, 2005, at the age of 41; and WHEREAS, A native of McAllen, where he was born on August 2, 1963, he was a graduate of Edinburg High School who went on to earn a bachelor of business administration degree in finance from Pan American University and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas School of Law; he returned to the Valley to open his law practice, and during his notable career he was highly regarded for the integrity and compassion he demonstrated in behalf of his clients and the greater community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Villarreal's volunteerism benefited a multitude of people; his service with the Hidalgo County Head Start Policy Council was truly a case of giving back, for he was enrolled in the program himself as a child; appointed to the Tropical Texas Center for MHMR in 2002, he was later elected board chair and played a key role in the organization's success over the past several years; his community involvement also encompassed board membership with the Boys and Girls Club of Pharr and terms as worshipful master of McAllen Masonic Lodge No. 1110 and District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas; and WHEREAS, Devoted to his wife, Diana, and their children, Sarah, Lauren, and Hermes, Hermes Villarreal gave generously of himself to benefit others in myriad ways; a talented artist whose beautiful paintings and drawings lend insight into his appreciation and love of life, he will long be fondly remembered by all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Hermes Villarreal and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his devoted wife of 13 years, Diana Villarreal; to his children, Sarah Briana, Lauren Itzel, and Hermes Alejandro Villarreal; to his mother, Hermelinda Villarreal; to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and Jim Eckroat, Magda and Michael Johnson, and Mirta Roper; to his grandmother, Guadalupe De Leon; to his in-laws, Ruben and Carolina Lopez; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hermes Villarreal.
