R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Harley Steele of San Antonio was offered a ticket to
attend the inauguration of the president in Washington, D.C., in
January 2005, and in response to this great honor, this determined
11-year-old took the initiative necessary to raise money to fund
her trip; and
WHEREAS, A student at Villareal Elementary School, Miss
Steele enlisted the assistance of family, friends, and local
businesses, and she organized a car wash for a benefit and raised
$2,500 for her travel expenses; and
WHEREAS, Through these efforts, this resourceful young woman
was able to visit our nation's capital with her grandmother and tour
its glorious historical sites and monuments; and
WHEREAS, Harley Steele is truly an exceptional young person
who has the strong spirit and determination to achieve her goals and
who is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Harley Steele for her hard work and
perseverance in her efforts to attend the presidential inauguration
in Washington, D.C., and extend to her sincere best wishes in all
her future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Miss Steele as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
