R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The D. P. Smith family of Llano has been an important influence in the cattle industry in Texas for more than 50 years, and family members continue to be active contributors to the ranching community in the Hill Country today; and WHEREAS, Damon Smith started buying calves as an order buyer during the 1940s and 1950s; by 1960, he had founded D. P. Smith and Son and purchased the Llano Livestock Auction, hosting weekly auctions year-round; the family business also sponsored a fall special breeder sale of bred heifers and young cows for replacement stock, a successful program that was adopted by other sellers across the state; and WHEREAS, For many years, the Smith family has played an important role in the Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association, and several members have served as president of the organization and have been strong supporters of the association's scholarship program for Llano students seeking to study agriculture; and WHEREAS, The Smith family has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the livestock business in Texas, and the family is most deserving of special recognition for its notable endeavors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the members of the D. P. Smith family for their contributions to the Texas cattle industry and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the family as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
