R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Baylor University track and field star Jeremy
Wariner has achieved international acclaim for his record–breaking
performances in collegiate and Olympic competitions; and
WHEREAS, This Irving native won Olympic gold medals in the
400-meters and the 1,600-meter relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in
Athens, Greece; in addition, Mr. Wariner claimed the indoor and
outdoor 400-meter titles and was a member of the 1,600-meter relay
team that won both NCAA titles; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wariner's outstanding achievements have made
him the first athlete in history to win both collegiate titles, the
U.S. Championship, and the Olympic gold medal in the 400-meters; he
has been named the Mondo Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and the
Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of Coach Clyde Hart, Mr.
Wariner has excelled in the sport of track and field, demonstrating
the dedication and physical stamina of a world champion, and his
name is forever etched in the annals of sports history; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jeremy Wariner for winning Olympic
gold in 2004 and for his many other exceptional achievements in the
sport of track and field; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Wariner as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
