R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The students, faculty, and staff of Schimelpfenig
Middle School in Plano are celebrating the school's 25th
anniversary in 2005; and
WHEREAS, The sixth middle school to be established in Plano,
Schimelpfenig opened its doors in the fall of 1980 to more than 400
sixth-grade and seventh-grade students; the following academic
year, the school expanded to accommodate over 250 eighth-grade
students; it is now one of 13 middle schools in the Plano
Independent School District, and its graduates have fed into Clark,
Vines, Shepton, and Jasper High Schools; and
WHEREAS, The school was built on a stand of prairie land near
Spring Creek and named for an early Plano settler, Fred
Schimelpfenig; the owner and operator of a lumber company and a dry
goods store, Mr. Schimelpfenig was the mayor of Plano at the turn of
the century and, for 66 years, served as the superintendent of
Sunday schools for the Plano Methodist Church South; he also
established the first Plano Music Conservatory; and
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Schimelpfenig Middle School has upheld
a tradition of success in academics, fine arts, and athletics, and
all those associated with this outstanding educational
institution, both past and present, can take great pride in its
outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Schimelpfenig Middle School on 25
years of excellence in education and extend to its students,
faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
