R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Matt Ockwood, a finance major at Texas A&M University, will lead the 1,700-member Cadet Corps during the 2005-2006 school year, and his selection as corps commander is most worthy of special recognition; and WHEREAS, A junior at TAMU, Mr. Ockwood is on track to graduate summa cum laude in December 2006 with a bachelor of business administration degree in finance and a professional certificate in leadership studies; and WHEREAS, This talented young man has been active with the Cadet Corps since his freshman year, when he was a member of the freshman leadership organization Aggie Fish Club; as a sophomore he was named squad leader and was recognized for outstanding student involvement with the Buck Weirus Spirit Award, an honor bestowed on only 10 sophomore students; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ockwood continued his steady advancement up the leadership ladder when he was named command sergeant major of the Cadet Corps, the highest ranking junior leadership position; in that role, he has been responsible for overseeing 1,300 corps members; and WHEREAS, The son of Jeff and Betty Ockwood of Plano, Mr. Ockwood is a member of the General O. R. Simpson Honor Society and has been named to the Mays College of Business Dean's List during each of his semesters at TAMU; he is also a recipient of a Mays Business Scholarship; and WHEREAS, Being selected to serve as corps commander is an honor that is bestowed on only the most exemplary cadets, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize Matt Ockwood for this significant achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Matt Ockwood on his selection as corps commander at Texas A&M University and extend best wishes to him for a successful tenure in this important post; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Ockwood as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
