R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Erin Bedell, a senior at Plano West High School, competed in the junior race at the 33rd Annual IAAF World Cross Country Championships in France, and this dedicated athlete made an impressive showing at this notable event; and WHEREAS, One of only two high school students on the U.S. junior women's cross country team in the race, Ms. Bedell completed the six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 32 seconds, to earn 28th place; her top-30 time was second best among American competitors and helped the United States to finish fourth overall; and WHEREAS, Ms. Bedell, who will attend Baylor University in the fall of 2005, won the UIL Class 5A cross country championship in 2004, setting state and course records with a time of 10 minutes, 39.2 seconds, on a 3.2-kilometer course at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock; she is also the reigning UIL record-holder in the mile; and WHEREAS, This dedicated student-athlete has earned the respect and admiration of her peers, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in all her endeavors, and she will undoubtedly continue to build on her already impressive list of accomplishments as she undertakes new and exciting challenges in the classroom and on the cross country course; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Erin Bedell for her performance at the 33rd Annual IAAF World Cross Country Championships and extend best wishes to her for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Bedell as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
