H.R. No. 1504



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Vidor High School senior Ashley Watson has secured 
her place in the high school powerlifting record books with an 
exceptional performance at the Texas High School Women's 
Powerlifting Association state championships in Killeen; and
	WHEREAS, A favorite in the 165-pound weight class for Class 
4A, Ms. Watson set state records with a total lift of 1,045 pounds, 
bench press of 225 pounds, squat of 405 pounds, and deadlift of 415 
pounds, to claim her second consecutive unified state title; she is 
the only female lifter at the 165-pound level in the state's history 
to lift more than 1,000 pounds in a single competition, and she 
shattered the previous state mark by 75 pounds; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Watson, who benefited from the able guidance and 
support of head coach Rodney Burks, concluded her stellar high 
school powerlifting career by holding every single Region IV and 
Texas lift record for her weight class, and she is truly deserving 
of special recognition for her impressive athletic achievements; 
now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate Ashley Watson of Vidor High School 
for her exceptional performance at the Texas High School Women's 
Powerlifting Association state championships in Killeen and extend 
to her best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Watson as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
